Dr. Mandal

Dr. Subhrangsu (Subhra) Mandal is a Professor of Biochemistry and Associate Department Chair at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the University of Texas at Arlington. Dr. Mandal received his B.Sc (Honors) and M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry from the Midnapore College and Kalyani University. He received Ph.D. (Organic Chemistry) from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and postdoctoral trainings from the University of Alberta (Canada) and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (HHMI, USA)). Dr. Mandal’s research interests are in the area of biochemistry of human gene regulation, epigenetics, and disease. His laboratory is investigating the functions of chromatin modifications and noncoding RNAs in regulating gene expression, steroid signaling, and inflammation associated with cardiovascular diseases, neurological disorders, and cancer. He is also developing novel drugs for various inflammatory and metabolic diseases and cancer. Dr, Mandal has published more than 75 publications in top international journals, written multiple books, book chapters, review articles, and patents. Dr. Mandal serves as a Section Editor for Heliyon Cancer Research, Associate Editor for Frontiers in Endocrinology and editorial board member for Scientific Reports. Dr. Mandal enjoys teaching biochemistry and organic chemistry and loves interacting with students. In leisure time, Dr. Mandal enjoys gardening, trekking, playing sitar, and spending time with his family.
